Cano, Rivera lead Yankees Past Diamondbacks, 4-2

On a night Ivan Nova did very little other than notch a victory, the Yankees won for the sixth time in seven games because those who are expected to produce delivered.

Counted on to carry a lineup that has been without Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira since the start of the season, Robinson Cano contributed a three-run homer in the fourth inning that landed in the bleachers.

Considered a strong point of a team loaded with questions, the bullpen provided four shutout innings after Nova and sealed a 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks Tuesday night in front of 34,107 at Yankee Stadium.

The victory raised the Yankees’ record to 7-5 and went to Nova (1-1). Pitching for the first time since April 5 because of rainouts and being skipped following a dismal initial outing, Nova gave up two runs, seven hits and two walks in five innings.

Boone Logan, Joba Chamberlain, David Robertson and Mariano Rivera got the final 12 outs. Rivera, the last player to wear No. 42, recorded the final three outs for his third save in as many tries. Players on each team wore 42 to honor Jackie Robinson.

Eduardo Nunez, who missed the previous two games because of a right wrist problem, drove in the Yankees’ fourth run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
