‘It’s on!’ ‘New’ AOL slogan steaming Sony

AOL has gotten Sony all worked up over a new slogan it used for its presentation at this week’s New Fronts.

Tim Armstrong’s media company splashed “It’s On!” on trade ads meant to lure advertisers to its splashy promotion.

That got Sony brass a little twisted as its popular video app, Crackle, which hosts “Seinfeld” episodes, uses the same slogan — and has for years.

Crackle, launched by Sony back in 2007, carries a host of Sony-made shows, such as “The Shield” and “Rescue Me,” and is presenting its “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” an original production, this week.

Sony executives said they’d be giving Armstong a call about the issue.

AOL, which is rumored to have Sarah Jessica Parker attending its New Front pitch tomorrow, is hoping to create content for advertisers as part of a new across-the-board marketing effort around a few topic areas, using the phrase “AOL On . . . Sport,” for instance.

The company said yesterday that video from its Huffington Post unit would air on the AEG-backed AXS channel, which has been shopping for content to fill its airtime.

AOL insiders claim to have heard nothing from Sony and suggest that the phrase “It’s On” is fair use.

Reps declined to comment.
