Pol: Make bad docs reveal all

A state lawmaker wants to force doctors to disclose major malpractice settlements against them to all patients and on all advertisements — similar to how restaurants must display their Health Department letter grades.

Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas (D-Queens) said she saw the need for the bill after reading about the case of cosmetic surgeon Dr. Oleg Davie, who performed a liposuction that lead to the death of heart-transplant patient Isel Pineda, despite his having a restricted medical license.

Currently, there is no law compelling doctors to tell patients about malpractice cases or to disclose the information on advertisements.
