Higher costs on parade here

The cost of hosting big events in New York City will increase as organizers look to beef up security in the wake of the Boston Marathon terrorist bombings.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and New York City Marathon officials told Crain’s New York Business that plans are being made for additional security at upcoming events, although some groups are unsure how to pay for it.

The Galos Corp., which produces the Puerto Rican Day Parade and 20 others, said it is hiring two additional security firms for the June 9 parade, it was reported.

West Indian Day Parade organizers are also trying to raise money to hire more security. “Nobody is coming up with money to say, ‘OK, you want more security, here’s an additional $100,000,’ ” Jean Alexander, secretary for the West Indian America Day Carnival Association, told Crain’s.
