Government on the attack: shutting down dissent?

The Issue: The IRS’ admission that it targeted conservative groups that had sought tax-exempt status.

Having an enemies list and using it is a bit more serious than being inappropriate or violating IRS policy (“The Nixon Wing at the IRS,” Editorial, May 13).

Give those responsible a cardboard box, five minutes to clean their desks out and a McDonald’s job application on the way out of the building.

There’s no need for legitimate government employees to face sequester cutbacks while political hacks draw paychecks.Tom Mastiska

The Democrats and their puppets in the mainstream media will cry foul about the scandal with the Internal Revenue Service and Tea Party.

They will say it’s a Trojan horse, but in reality they are full of horse manure. This scandal has shadows of a brave new world.

If senior IRS official Lois Lerner were a decent person, she would not only apologize but resign. Congress owes it to the American people to find out whether Lerner was the zookeeper or just taking orders from higher-ups.

The Tea Party and other patriot groups often include “Abolish the IRS” in their platform.

The IRS responded with: “OK, Tea Party. You want to play games? Then let’s play games.”

Welcome to the real world of politics.

The story about the IRS targeting Tea Party groups made me paranoid, because I was audited last fall.

I have been a Tea Party member and have written many letters to The Post that have been critical of President Obama’s policies, cabinet members and his dismal performance both domestically and internationally.

I was audited just after one of my letters was published just prior to the fall election last year.

I am a nobody. Have any specific individuals been targeted by Obama’s IRS?

Thank you to The Post for challenging this horrendous overreach by the Obama administration. Diane McVey
