Case of Jets’ Goodson sent to grand jury

Mike Goodson was back in court yesterday morning, but nothing was resolved related to the Jets running back’s arrest last month on drugs and weapons charges.

In a brief pre-trial hearing, which lasted less than a minute, at Morris County Superior Court in Morristown, N.J., the case was sent to the grand jury. A trial date has yet to be set, Morris County assistant prosecutor Peter Foy said. Foy said during hearing the “investigation is ongoing.”

Goodson’s attorney, Al Gellene, declined comment as he whisked Goodson out of the court room.

Foy declined to comment directly on the case, other than to say, “there is no typical at this point.” The next step is either a trial or a plea bargain, Foy said.

Goodson was arrested along with a friend Garant Evans after they were found in a car stopped on Interstate 80 in Denville, N.J. Both were charged with marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and weapons offenses that included a 45-caliber semi-automatic handgun with hollow-point bullets found in the vehicle.

Goodson, 25, has pleaded not guilty and has taken part in offseason practices with the Jets, including this week’s mandatory minicamp. The 25-year-old played three seasons for Carolina and one for Oakland before the Jets signed him to a three-year, $6.9 million deal this offseason.

Anthony Fusco, Goodson’s other lawyer, recently told The Post Evans, the driver of the vehicle both men were in when they were arrested, told New Jersey State Police the gun belonged to him, not Goodson, on the night of the arrest. Nevertheless, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said the ownership of the gun has not been determined, and both men were charged the night of the arrest because it was unclear whose gun it was.
