Bam bid to help hold ‘Kerry’ seat

WASHINGTON — President Obama stumped in Boston yesterday to try to keep Secretary of State John Kerry’s vacated Senate seat in the Democratic column.

Obama used his star power to boost Massachusetts Rep. Ed Markey, the Democratic candidate running for the Senate seat, in an effort to avoid the fiasco that beset Democrats in 2010 when Republican Scott Brown stunningly won a special election.

Markey is a longtime politician and traditional liberal Democrat.

But Republican candidate Gabriel Gomez, a former Navy SEAL, is within single digits of Markey in the June 25 special election to succeed Kerry.
