Kelly’s NSA quip: an oversight?

The Issue: Commissioner Ray Kelly’s call for oversight at the NSA, as the NYPD faces calls for a monitor.

I never thought Commissioner Ray Kelly and I would share the same views (“Monitoring Ray’s Mouth,” Editorial, June 19).

I don’t think the NYPD needs monitoring, just like Americans don’t need monitoring.

We are not the enemy. So why do they need access to records of every phone call?

In reality, this is nothing new. Yes, it’s being leaked for the first time, but most of us who don’t live under a rock know what’s really going on.

Why couldn’t they stop the Boston bombers?

They spend all their time spying on Americans, while terrorists seem to get a free pass.

I’ve heard a million times that if you’re doing nothing wrong, then you have nothing to hide. If that’s the case, why does the government keep everything secret?

Would anyone other than Eric Holder or the gaggle of twits running for mayor (I send my deepest sympathies to all New Yorkers) even consider tying the hands of the NYPD, which has done an excellent job of protecting citizens from not only common street criminals, but also from terrorists?

Now it is proposed that police officers not give accurate physical descriptions of criminals. Could anyone imagine this right after 9/11?

Candidates with nothing to offer find it easy to pick on the Police Department.
