Channing Tatum, the new King of Hollywood

1. He knows how to pick ’em. Unlike most of his 30-something, muscled brethren, Tatum has resisted selling out with a superhero franchise. He even reportedly had it put into his “G.I. Joe” contract that — spoiler alert — he had to be killed off in the sequel.

2. He’s a family man. Channing met Jenna Dewan-Tatum on the set of “Step Up” in 2005. They tied the knot in 2009, adding daughter Everly to the mix last month.

3. He’s a selfless actor. In the hands of another A-lister, “White House Down” could easily have become a self-promotional star vehicle. Instead, Tatum allowed actors like James Woods to share just as much dialogue. “I just wanna keep working with great people,” he told Vulture. “New characters, things that I haven’t done, things that I haven’t seen. I just don’t want to repeat myself.”

4. He doesn’t take himself too seriously. DiCaprio, Day-Lewis and Pitt are Actors with a capital A. Self-deprecating Tatum told Vanity Fair, “I don’t think I can do half the things those guys do. I’m just trying to be me, and I don’t know what that is half the time.”

5. He’s game for anything. When Jimmy Kimmel called him to rap in a music video for “(I Wanna) Channing All Over Your Tatum,” he was there. Tatum also lends his talents in the year’s top cameo — in “This Is the End,” in a scene so raunchy (or so delicious), it will never, ever leave your mind.

6. He rules the box office. The numbers speak for themselves. Last year, Tatum opened three movies at No. 1, each with at least $35 million. His baby, “Magic Mike,” was one of the most profitable films of the year, earning $113 million with an estimated budget of just $7 mil.

7. His hot bod doesn’t come easy. You’d be hard-pressed to find a photo of most male stars looking chubby between films, but Tatum admits that the minute he stops working out, the pudge protrudes. “I’m a fat kid on the inside,” he told Cosmopolitan, “I love food so much, and I fluctuate about 25 to 30 pounds between movies.” That, friends, is a real man.
