The creator of the Kick-Ass franchise is “baffled” by Jim Carrey’s decision to withdraw his support of the upcoming sequel.
Mark Millar – who produced the movies and penned the original comic books – says the actor was attracted to the role of Colonel Stars And Stripes in Kick-Ass 2 because he’s a vigilante who refuses to use firearms.
Jim has pulled out of promotional duties, deeming the “level of violence” in the film to be inappropriate in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook school massacre in Connecticut, US.
He tweeted: “I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence.
“My apologies to others involved with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.”
