Giants rookie Nassib looks every bit the inexperienced QB in drills

David Carr is entering his 12th NFL season, and it comes as no surprise he doesn’t look like a rookie on the practice field. That, however, is precisely what Ryan Nassib looks like and a big reason why it is likely both Carr and Nassib will remain on the scene once the Giants’ final roster is complete.

Nassib, a fourth-round pick from Syracuse, got a shot yesterday at running the two-minute drill, working indoors because of the wet grass on the Giants’ practice fields. It didn’t go very well.

Nassib completed a pass to tight end Larry Donnell, but then had his problems. He looked for Donnell again, but the pass was deflected by linebacker Kyle Bosworth and intercepted on the rebound by linebacker Mark Herzlich. Given it was practice, the turnover didn’t count and Nassib got another chance. His next pass was underthrown to Keith Carlos and intercepted by cornerback Laron Scott.

* Linebacker Aaron Curry, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, is attempting to resuscitate his career after disappointing stops in Seattle and Oakland. Curry is coming off a knee injury and, although he’s down to 250 pounds, he’s not nearly all the way back yet.

“I think he’s coming along,’’ linebacker coach Jim Hermann said. “He had a long way to go because of where he came from, but he had a pick out here the other day. He’s a big strong man who can play blockers. I think every day he goes out, he gets better.”

* Rookie offensive lineman Justin Pugh’s concussion sounds as if will keep him out a while.

“[Pugh] didn’t feel well [Thursday] when he got inside and coming to the meeting was not an easy thing for him.’’ coach Tom Coughlin said. “[Pugh] couldn’t really function to capacity.’’

* Coughlin rarely makes deviations from his carefully scripted training camp schedule, but yesterday he made an exception, joining the Giants’ traveling party on a private flight to Canton to honor Bill Parcells on his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“A celebration of the apex of someone’s career,’’ said Coughlin, a Parcells assistant for three years (1988-90). “The idea that we do throw this ‘great’ word around in common usage today much, much too often, but Bill Parcells is a great football coach.’’

Parcells won his two Super Bowls with the Giants. Coughlin also has won two Super Bowls as the Giants’ head coach, certainly vaulting him into the Hall of Fame discussion. He adamantly refused to entertain that thought on the day Parcells gets inducted.

“I don’t even want to hear that kind of stuff today,’’ Coughlin said. “I’m sorry to say it that way, but that’s not what this day is about. This day is about Coach Parcells, period.’’

* Receiver Hakeem Nicks and cornerback Corey Webster, both dealing with strained groins, again sat out practice. Nicks is expected to return on Tuesday and Coughlin said Webster is close.
