Mary J. Blige new spokesperson for American Cancer Society, even though her own charity melted down

Her own charity melted down, but that didn’t stop the American Cancer Society from picking Mary J. Blige to back its efforts.

The R&B singer is one of the new celebrity spokespeople for the cancer-fighting charity and appears in its new commercials.

The Post last year exposed numerous lapses at Blige’s Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now (FFAWN), including the failure to pay promised scholarships. There is an ongoing legal battle over the charity’s default on a $250,000 loan.

FFAWN failed to file its required annual registration with the state attorney general and is not allowed to raise money in New York. The group has also not filed tax returns for two years.

A cancer society spokeswoman said the group believed in Blige’s “creativity, spirit and passion for our cause, and we’re grateful to her for donating her time and talent.”
