POLS’ PIER PRESSURE IMPERILS B’KLYN PLAN

The Bloomberg administration’s redevelopment plans for the Red Hook waterfront in Brooklyn all but drowned yesterday when some of the city’s most powerful politicians – including four mayoral candidates – jumped on board in support of it remaining a working port.

Twenty-one elected officials sent Port Authority Executive Director Anthony Shorris a letter yesterday, demanding the PA back off its plan to sell piers 7 through 11 in Red Hook to the city and, instead, immediately provide a 10-year lease without competitive bidding to the current operator, American Stevedoring.

The letter, obtained by The Post, included signatures by four mayoral candidates, Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Rep. Anthony Weiner, Comptroller William Thompson Jr. and Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum.
