GRAND SITE FOR PIANIST

HE’S played in concert halls around the world, but Yefim Bronfman has yet to tackle Vanderbilt Hall . . . in Grand Central Terminal.

That will change Wednesday morning, when the Grammy-winning pianist sits down at a 9-foot Steinway grand – in the middle of rush hour – to play for a cause: hunger awareness.

It’s also a prelude for a 10-day online auction benefiting the Food Bank of New York City. The prize: an in-home concert by the 49-year-old master pianist, popularly known as Fima.

So what can commuters expect to hear?

“I have no idea,” he tells The Post. “I really don’t know what the acoustics are going to be like.”

Just don’t ask him to play “Misty” for you – he’ll only be there for 30 minutes or so.

The Upper West Sider says he’s no stranger to hunger. He was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to parents who often went without food in their native countries. His Polish mother hid in the forests to escape Nazis.

“All there was to eat were the mushrooms and whatever else was growing there,” he says. “This performance at Grand Central is a way for me to give back to the people who were there for me when I came to New York, so I did not have to suffer.”

The music starts at 8 a.m. at Vanderbilt Hall, adjacent to Grand Central’s Main Concourse. Visit FimaForFoodBank.com to bid for the free concert.
