THE 2007 LIBERTY MEDALS

Let’s hear it for the 10 New Yorkers who won the sixth annual New York Post Liberty Medals at a ceremony near Ground Zero Wednesday night.

The Liberty Medals acknowledge exceptional service by ordinary New Yorkers from all walks of life. It’s our way of paying tribute to the spirit shown by so many after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The winners are not among the rich or powerful, and neither necessarily are those who nominated them. Over the past few months, Post readers have nominated thousands of their fellow citizens for awards in 10 separate categories.

Congratulations to winners Wesley Autrey (Courage), Glen Merkitch (New York’s Bravest), Ronald Gorsky (Educator), Nooria Nodrat (Freedom), Jourdan Urbach (Young Heart), Dr. Monica Sweeney (Community), Jeff Parness (Ambassador), Sheikh Moussa Drammeh (Leadership), Angel Cruz Jr. (New York’s Finest) and Roscoe Brown (Lifetime Achievement).

Thanks as well to emcee Regis Philbin, sponsor John Catsimatidis and the host of New York notables who contributed to the evening.

It was a memorable event – and a fitting tribute to true New York heroes.
