RANGERS LEANING ON HENRIK

During their current homestand the Rangers have managed to score more than two goals just once, in a 3-1 victory over Tampa last Monday.

But thanks to a remarkable stretch of goaltending from Henrik Lundqvist, the Blueshirts enter tonight’s game with division rival Philadelphia (7 p.m., VS.), the final game of their six-game homestand, with four wins in their last five games, along with their first three-game winning streak of the season.

Despite their recent success, the Rangers’ problem all season – a lack of offensive production – has not changed. No one on the team has more than three goals, and the Blueshirts have the lowest number of goals scored (23) by a wide margin.

But Lundqvist, who has started all 13 games, has held opponents to a 1.61 goals-against average, good for fourth in the NHL, and is the reason the Rangers are tied for the lowest number of goals allowed in league.

During the Blueshirts’ three-game winning streak he has been even better, stopping 80 of 82 shots. He made 31 saves in a shutout of Washington on Thursday, and stopped 28 shots against the Devils on Saturday night in regulation and overtime before stopping all three of New Jersey’s attempts in the shootout.

The Flyers come into tonight’s game with 16 points, and are in first place in the Atlantic Division. This is the first game between the two teams this season.
