MIKE’S SIS LIGHTS FIRE UNDER UN

Mayor Bloomberg and his sister – the city’s liaison with the United Nations – played tagged team against the world body yesterday with a letter ripping its timeframe for fixing alleged firetrap conditions and warning officials they’ll face “actions” if they don’t shape up.

It’s the latest salvo in the Bloomberg administration’s fight with the United Nations over 866 safety violations that city inspectors found at the 57-year-old complex.

“As we previously advised you, if the deadlines set out in the Mayor’s October 30, 2007 letter are not met . . . the city will have no choice but to direct the cessation of all public school visits to the United Nations, and if warranted, the city will take additional action as well,” Marjorie Tiven, city commissioner to the United Nations, wrote in the letter, dated yesterday.

Bloomberg had recently threatened to halt all public school tours of the East Side complex if the UN doesn’t make haste in dealing with the inspection issues, saying basics such as smoke detectors and alarm systems are missing from the building.

The UN responded by saying it had some deadlines in place.
