RUDY’S POLICE PRESENCE: A FORCE AT THE POLLS?

Make no mistake about it – the overwhelming majority of NYPD officers have no love for Rudy Giuliani (“Rudy & NYC’s Cops,” Adam Brodsky, PostOpinion, Nov. 19).

The police backed him in his quest for office, made him look good by giving him unprecedented crime reductions and then, when it came time to pay the piper, Giuliani cried poverty and showed that everything else he said was just lip service.

When the city had a surplus, the heroes got zeros. The only NYC police officer who got any loyalty from Giuliani is the guy who may eventually sink his presidential aspirations – now that is justice.

“Rudy & NYC’s Cops” pretty much says it all about the 2008 election and the man who should become our next president.

As people hear more about Pat Lynch, will they forget all the wonderful things Giuliani did as mayor?

Giuliani is the only candidate who can stop the Clintons from taking the White House again.

When I hear New Yorkers, like NYPD members, trash Giuliani and see Republicans so selfish about what they want in a candidate, I wonder if they would rather elect a Clinton.

Giuliani played the PBA card against David Dinkins, and most NYPD officers thought of him as a friend until contract time came around.

My best raise in 20 years as an officer came during Ed Koch’s years.

The two reasons for the dramatic decline in criminal activity in the city are the increased real-estate prices and the NYPD crime statistics, which are maintained and disseminated by the NYPD to paint a rosy picture.

Brodsky left out a few things. Giuliani is the mayor who, although he admitted NYC cops were paid unfairly, gave himself a raise.

This is the mayor who hired Bernie Kerik, a man every cop on the job knew shouldn’t have been police commissioner. He was hired because Giuliani needed someone who wouldn’t steal his spotlight like Bill Bratton did.

Every cop knows that it was far more Bratton than Giuliani who was responsible for the drop in crime, but you’ll never hear Bratton’s name in any Giuliani ads.

Before Brodsky presumes to speak for us, I suggest he do a little more research. Most of us members of the NYPD don’t support Giuliani and never will.

I am a lifelong Republican who voted for Giuliani twice. His second term was headed toward disaster, and he is a boorish man.

For the first time in ages I have made no campaign contributions, and if the race is between him and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, I will abstain from voting.

New York City’s cops, firefighters and teachers are the most underpaid in the country. Giuliani’s embracing of 9/11 like he is a savior is a joke, and when his picture in drag shows up on TV next Halloween, I will be an embarrassed Republican if he is our nominee.
