DOWN-HOME DOWN LOW

FANS of Tyler Perry might get a chuckle out of the comedy “Dirty Laundry,” about a black family in down-home Georgia that is shaken up when its most successful member, a New York City buppie, returns home. He finds out he has a 10-year-old son; they find out he’s gay.

Broad jokes about sassy women and nosy neighbors are punctuated by gospel singing in a predictably heart-warming story featuring a mediocre performance by Raymond Dunbar in the lead, though Loretta Devine gets it right as the no-nonsense mama.

There are a few funny moments, such as when a gay New Yorker teaches a Georgia girl about the wisdom of Diana Ross and “Mommie Dearest,” and the tone is good-natured enough to make a simple movie semi-watchable.

Running time: 104 minutes. Rated PG-13 (profanity, sexual situations). At the Chelsea, 23rd Street and Eighth Avenue.
