‘SWIFT BOAT’ VS. GIULIANI

Families representing firefighters killed on Sept. 11 are setting up a “Swift-Boat”-type fund-raising group to collect big bucks aimed at sinking Rudy Giuliani‘s candidacy for president.

The announcement could come as early as tomorrow, said organizer James Riches, a deputy city fire chief whose son, James Jr., also a firefighter, died at Ground Zero.

“We should be up and running by Jan. 1,” said Riches. “The purpose is going to be to set the record straight about 9/11. Rudy Giuliani is not a hero.”

He said the group would have a Web site and hopes to raise $500,000 to $1 million to bankroll anti-Giuliani mailings and media ads.

Giuliani’s candidacy has infuriated some 9/11 families, who charge the city was ill-prepared for such a terrorist attack when he was mayor.
