PARK TO BE BUILT (AT LAST)

They’re building Brooklyn Bridge Park – again!

City and state officials recently announced that construction on the long-delayed 85-acre waterfront park stretching from Brooklyn Heights to DUMBO would kick off with a ceremonial groundbreaking in early 2008.

If the declaration seemed familiar, it was.

“We’ve definitely heard this story before,” said Judi Francis, who heads a group suing to block high-rise housing being included the project.

At least two other official events since 2001 were referred to as groundbreakings for the project in state and city press releases, The Post found.

And that doesn’t count the half-dozen other events over the past six years in which camera-loving A- and B-list politicos gathered for ceremonial lovefests to announce “significant” progress.

The project – which has been in the works for more than 20 years – has also seen many anticipated groundbreakings repeatedly pushed back.

But Warner Johnson, a spokesman for the Empire State Development Corp., which is overseeing construction, promised that this time would be the real deal.

“This will be the first true physical signs of construction,” he said, referring to the $18 million “first phase,” which includes demolishing the historic Purchase Building and removing parts of four piers. A starting date is not yet set, although officials say it will be within months.
