‘PAINT’ CAPTURES BUSANDA

Todd Pletcher, one win short of career victory 2,000, sent out a trio of 3-year-old fillies – half the field – in the $75,000 Busanda at a mile and 70 yards: Sunday Elegance, a 2-1 favorite; Sumptuous, 6-1; and La Porta, 8-1. Sunday Elegance, under Stewart Elliott, came through the inside around the clubhouse turn to set the pace, opened daylight down the backside, faded from top of the stretch home. La Porta put in a solid late run under Mike Luzzi, but fell a neck short of Paint Me Red, making first start for Gary Contessa after shipping up from Fla., 3-1 with Ramon Dominguez up.

FIRST RACE: Two 6-5 shots, Mulligatawny, seeking fourth straight win for Asmussen-Elliott, and slight favorite Dani Tom Boy, who came off an eight-month layoff to break maiden Dec. 2 for Ben Perkins Jr., hooked up in a speed duel, went head-to-head to deep stretch, when Mulligatawny pulled clear as Dani Tom Boy pulled up with a fracture of left-front knee. She was vanned off, euthanized.

SIXTH RACE: No Shopping Maria, who rallied to finish second, beaten a neck, versus 35G New York-bred maiden claimers first out, stepped up into special-weight company, was 5-2 coupled with Crimson Attire for Bruce Levine; this time, No Shopping Maria went right to the front under Alan Garcia, never looked back.
