OVERAGE ‘GRAD’ TIDINGS

Overage students on whom the school system had once “given up” are graduating in record numbers under a special program launched in 2005, Mayor Bloomberg reported yesterday.

Bloomberg said he’s expecting the 5,000th graduate this month from the Learning to Work program, which combines small school settings with paid internships for students 16 to 21 who are at least two years behind.

“In the past, the school system gave up on far too many,” the mayor said.
