RUDY’S FLA. FLOOD DRIVE

CORAL GABLES, FLA. – Rudy Giuliani is fishing for a tidal wave of Florida votes – by claiming he’s more interested in tackling the hurricane-related insurance crisis here than John McCain or Mitt Romney.

Home-insurance rates have doubled or tripled in Florida’s coastal areas making it a politically explosive issue here.

McCain surprised some Floridians on Monday by saying he flatly opposed setting up a separate federal program to make home insurance more affordable for cash-strapped residents in flood-disaster zones.

Giuliani backs creating a separate national catastrophic insurance program.

“There has to be a better way to do this so people have insurance and have it accessible. I’m the only candidate who is supporting [the program],” Giuliani said yesterday in West Palm Beach Gardens.
