Actor Wesley Snipes owes $70,000 in back property taxes on his multimillion-dollar New Jersey mansion.
The 45-year-old tax scofflaw, recently cleared of serious fraud and conspiracy charges in Florida, now could lose his $8 million home in Alpine, Bergen County, if he doesn’t cough up the cash within two years.
In December, Alpine sold a lien on the house, which in name is owned by Snipes’ Nevada-based company, Kymberlyte Production Services.
Court records show that his company paid $46,722 in property taxes for 2006 but didn’t pay $17,969 in interest and penalties. The company also failed to pay $49,139 for 2007, the Bergen Record newspaper reported.
Snipes owned the sprawling home until 2002, when his company bought it for $5.6 million.
At auction, Crusader Lien Services of Jenkintown, Pa., paid the back taxes and can proceed with foreclosure when the two-year payback period is up if the taxes are still not paid.
