PRIDE & PATRIOTISM: DID OBAMA DIS THE US?

Michelle Malkin gets it right again (“Michelle Obama’s Oblivious ‘Pride,’ ” PostOpinion, Feb. 20).

She is one of the few writers to comment on Mrs. Obama’s remarks.

Obama’s essentially saying that before her husband had the opportunity to run for president, the United States wasn’t her favorite place.

She has no pride in the country that her husband now wants to head.

Do we want a first lady with that attitude? I think not.

Why can’t Obama be proud of a country that saved the world in World War II, won the Cold War, sent a man to the moon, liberates people in faraway countries and saves lives in Africa?

I came to this great country 26 years ago, and I am proud to be an American every second of my life.

Obama wants to be our next first lady? Watch out, America!

Given that they are married and likely discuss their philosophies continuously, it is reasonable to assume that this potential future president likely feels the same way as his wife.

The Obamas are an unpatriotic disgrace.

I wish Malkin and Condoleezza Rice were running for president and vice president.

This white man would happily vote for them in a second.

Wannabe First Lady Obama apparently takes no pride in the past of our great nation – one that provided the opportunity for her and her husband to be where they are today.

It seems that her Ivy League education failed to instill in Obama the realization that this is the same country that reversed the wrongs of its past when it built upon the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

I could not finish reading Malkin’s article about Obama. It was sickening.

I totally understand Obama’s remark.

Malkin may be a “woman of color,” but she seems blind to me.

Since adulthood, I have not been a proud American – there are too many issues to bring up now.

I can only hope that if Barack Obama is elected, I will feel some American pride.

I live in Philadelphia but buy The Post every day.

I love your sports section and many of your writers, but Malkin just shot to the top of my list of favorite columnists.

I am 72 years old, and it really hurts people my age to hear the younger generation say they’re not proud of our country.

My thanks to Malkin for speaking up for her generation.

Wasn’t Obama proud when the Berlin Wall fell or when the Cold War ended?

Wasn’t she proud the way the country pulled together after 9/11? What about our response, as a people, to Hurricane Katrina or the tsunami in Asia?

This is just another example of pampered politicians who are completely out of touch with the people they want to represent.

I agree with Malkin about being proud to be an American instead of with Obama, whose national pride depends only on her personal achievements and not on what others in our nation have done.

I am proud to be an American every day that I wake up free and realize that there’s no place else on Earth that I’d rather live.

I’m proud of our soldiers who have served and died to keep us free and safe.

It’s a shame that the left-wing Democrats always blame America for the ills of the world and never give our country credit for all of the great and wonderful things it has done for its people and for others.

If Obama has no pride in her adult life, does that mean that she doesn’t even have any pride in her own accomplishments of graduating both Harvard and Princeton?

She has been blessed with many advantages, but if she is still not satisfied, she needs to rethink her adult life.

If she still cannot find pride in this wonderful country, she should consider living somewhere in the Middle East, where a woman cannot even leave the house without a male member of her family in tow.

Shame on you, Michelle Obama.

I was so impressed with Malkin’s article that I was compelled to write.

It is so sad that the liberals of today have nothing better to do than knock our country.

I have but one wish: that they move to a country that they think is better than the United States of America.
