RICH MARTIN DIES AT 64

Rich Martin of Tappan, a retired deputy chief of the NYPD and father of Post sports writer Dan Martin, died at home Saturday at 64.

Born and raised in The Bronx, Martin joined the NYPD in June 1966 and began his career in the 32nd Precinct in Manhattan, where he spent many years.

He retired in 2000. His final command was executive officer, chief of patrol.

He was a member of the Rockland County Shields and the NYPD Emerald Society.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Peggy; son Dan; sister Eileen and her husband Jack O’Connor; mother-in-law Dorothy McLoughlin; brother-in-law John and his wife Kathy McLoughlin; and sister-in-law Carol Lynch. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Helen, and brother Kenny Martin.

Visiting will be today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service, 321 S. Main St., New City, NY. There will be a Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, 120 Kings Highway, Tappan, NY. Interment will follow at Rockland Cemetery.
