POLITICAL WIVES SPAR IN WAR OF WORDS

A spousal spat erupted between the wives of presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama yesterday over who loves America more.

Cindy McCain took a jab at Michelle Obama, who said on Monday, “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change.”

Cindy McCain, while introducing her husband at a pre-election rally in Brookfield, Wis., yesterday said, “I am proud of my country. I don’t know about you. If you heard those words earlier, I am very proud of my country.”

Queried by reporters afterward, she said, “I just wanted to make the statement that I have and always will be proud of my country.”

The Obama camp insisted Michelle’s remarks were being taken out of context. “Of course, Michelle Obama is proud of her country, which is why she and Barack talk constantly about how their story wouldn’t be possible in any other nation on earth,” said Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki.
