BROOKLYN’S BEEP LEADS BUBBLY BASH

Times Square may be the Crossroads of the World, but revelers at Brooklyn’s New Year’s celebration last night had their champagne personally poured by the borough’s president.

“The champagne’s keeping me warm – it’s what Brooklyn’s all about,” said Carolyn Ramer, 36, who was among the more than 1,000 people who braved the bitter cold at Grand Army Plaza for the borough’s 27th annual New Year’s bash last night.

“Staten Island, Queens, The Bronx, who’s bigger?” teased Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz after pouring the bubbly. “We’re the second-largest celebration in New York.”

A fireworks show went off as planned, despite concerns about the high winds, and entertainment was provided by a James Brown impersonator.

But the longest lines formed around the Starbucks truck, where hot coffee was the most popular drink around.
