SHEEKEY PEEKY

Rep. Anthony Weiner may be Mayor Bloomberg’s fiercest campaign critic, but he and Deputy Mayor Kevin Sheekey had a private chat near City Hall 14 months ago, according to records released yesterday.

Responding to a Freedom of Information request filed a year ago, the Mayor’s Office finally gave up Sheekey’s schedules from July 2, 2007, to Jan. 11, 2009, a period during which he was busy promoting Bloomberg as a presidential prospect.

More recently, Sheekey has been pushing Caroline Kennedy’s candidacy for the US Senate seat being vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton.

It’s impossible to tell whether Sheekey was engaged in political work on government time, because 490 entries were blacked out as personal and not city related.

That’s an improvement over City Hall’s 626 redactions when The Post checked Sheekey’s meetings covering Jan. 16, 2006, to June 29, 2007.

But even with sections blocked out, the schedules offer a glimpse into the workings of the mayor’s senior political aide.

On Nov. 5, 2007, he met Weiner at the restaurant Mocca between 11 a.m. and noon for “coffee.” There’s no explanation of what they talked about.

Sheekey had far more face time with Brooklyn Democratic leader Vito Lopez, whose name turns up nine times, an indication of the mayor’s close ties to one of the city’s top Democrats.

Ex-Bronx Democratic leader José Rivera appears four times.

Bloomberg insists he didn’t twist arms to extend term limits, but the schedules show that Sheekey met with seven legislators before the City Council vote on the issue. All ended up supporting the mayor.

Mayoral spokesman Stu Loeser said all of Sheekey’s meetings involved city business, including the one with Weiner.

“It’s Kevin’s job to liaison with members of Congress,” Loeser said.
