NY’S FALCONS ON UPS-WING

ALBANY – Peregrine falcons are making a comeback – flourishing on the cliffs, bridges and skyscrapers of New York state, four decades after pesticides apparently had eliminated them from the eastern United States.

In 2008, 67 territorial pairs of peregrines and 130 hatchlings from 60 breeding pairs were found in New York, a record-setting year for the sky-diving predators, said Pete Grannis, commissioner of the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation.
