You’ve got to admire the greenies.
The Eastern Seaboard was in the throes of a major late-winter snowstorm yesterday: Air travelers endured huge delays; frozen switches crippled trains; schools closed from Maine to Georgia, and slick roadways caused innumerable accidents – some fatal.
But there they were on Capitol Hill – muffled up to their eyeballs and protesting “global warming.”
If only.
The mass “civil disobedience” targeted the Capitol power plant, which burns coal to heat and cool the US Capitol complex.
The House leadership is tying itself into eco-knots over the issue; it’s spent nearly $2.8 million of your tax dollars to convert its share of the plant’s energy to natural gas, and it blew almost $90,000 on “carbon offsets” to help salve its collective conscience.
Before the pols consider any more cockamamie carbon schemes, perhaps they should reflect on the irony of global-warming protesters marching in yesterday’s freezing wind and snow.
They could also consider the data: Studies suggest that recent global temperatures have been far below what they were in the Middle Ages – when coal-fired power plants were, um, a rarity.
They might also keep in mind that during yesterday’s wintery blasts, millions of Americans were protected from freezing to death by coal-produced energy.
