SHERMAN’S WAY

COMING-of-age road trips have rarely been more tedious or predictable than Craig Saavedra’s “Sherman’s Way,” wherein an uptight Ivy Leaguer (Michael Shulman) flees to the West Coast to escape his overbearing politician mother (Donna Murphy).

Dumped by his girlfriend in Napa Valley, our hero hitches a ride in a cherry-red convertible driven by a former Olympic skier turned bum (James LeGros). The latter imparts life lessons with the help of a laid-back mechanic (Enrico Colantoni) and a conveniently unattached local hottie (Brooke Nevin).

LeGros isn’t bad, but this pre-DVD road trip feels like it’s four hours long.

Running time: 98 minutes. Not rated (profanity). At the Village East, Second Avenue and 12th Street.
