That’s super!
The Giants are the second best franchise in pro sports, behind the Boston Celtics, in rankings performed by the Web site bizjournals.com.
Big Blue was best in New York by a large margin, with the Mets next at 20th overall. The Jets were 22nd and the Yankees 23rd.
Half of a team’s ranking was based on its record, average margin of victory (or defeat), and playoff results. The other half analyzed home attendance, the percentage of seats sold, and the change in franchise value from 2007 to 2008.
Following the Giants in the top 10 were the Lakers, Canadiens, Red Sox, Pistons, Red Wings, Cubs, Phillies and Penguins.
The Lions were worst among 122 professional teams.
The Giants’ score surged thanks to their Super Bowl victory and nearly sold-out stadium.
The Yankees were hurt by failing to make the playoffs last season and for a relatively low percentage of seats sold (.932).
