REMEMBER THE DAZE

‘REMEMBER the Daze” remembers “Dazed and Confused” but forgets to put in the laughs.

Some 22 dull characters (the cast includes Leighton Meester of “Gossip Girl”) shuffle aimlessly around this end-of-high-school movie set, weirdly, in 1998. The students smoke, drive, drink, flirt, eat ‘shrooms, baby-sit, play in a band and ultimately attend an outdoor keg party.

We keep waiting for a story, or at least some comedy, but none ever materializes. The dialogue makes Algebra II seem fascinating by comparison. “Dude,” says one kid in a typical line, “I feel so bad about being so annoying. You know, it’s so hard.” This movie isn’t even sophomoric; it’s freshmanic.

Running time: 101 minutes. Rated R (profanity, sexual situations, drinking, drugs, all involving teens). At the Loews Village, Third Avenue and 11th Street.
