LOCAL

Born in Manhattan, raised in The Bronx and a 30-year member of Midtown’s workforce, I take exception to your criteria for passing as a native New Yorker (“Walk Like a Local,” April 10).

While I agree with some points – having your MetroCard ready, walking fast and ordering a “slice,” I disagree wholeheartedly on the “don’t ever look up” rule. I make it a point to look up every day and absorb a skyline that takes my breath away.

My city-slicker instincts allow me to cross the street, venture over grates and avoid bicycles and dog droppings, all while walking with my head held high.

Sometimes I even stroll over to Times Square where I could easily be mistaken for a tourist from Nebraska.
