ROCKIN’ EARTH

We all know the environment is under attack, but unlikely duo Tommy Lee and Ludacris are getting ready to stand up and fight back.

In what’s destined to be the most historically significant rap/rock collaboration since Aerosmith and Run-DMC hooked up, the Motley Crue drummer and the hip-hop icon are joining forces to educate you about the environment in Planet Green’s upcoming reality series “Battleground Earth: Ludacris vs Tommy Lee,” premiering this August.

While Luda was in the studio, Tommy Lee was thrilled to literally go out on a limb for us as our exclusive interview and photo spread shows.

Currently in production, Lee and Luda will travel around the country, competing to complete 10 mystery, eco-friendly challenges. They’ve only heard about three challenges in advance: building bamboo homes in New Orleans, finding fuel for their bio-diesel buses in the middle of Texas and recycling trash left in the Oakland A’s stadium after a game.

“I’m coming from a humble standpoint, so I want to teach other people and myself how to make a difference for generations to come, by helping to save planet Earth,” Ludacris says. “Everything we do is geared towards trying to educate people that are watching, so that they can become even more eco-friendly.”

No stranger to reality TV, Lee says that he wasn’t “interested in doing another show, but this one is different, it has a purpose other than comedy and stupidity it’s fun, informative and educational.”

But, not in a preachy way though, Lee hastens to say. “We’re definitely going to make it fun, otherwise you’ll freak people, including myself, out this stuff can be scary to people who don’t really know about it and are set in their ways.”

Both superstars are the first to admit that they aren’t experts in going green, but they’re working on it beyond the obvious recycling, that is.

Besides constantly reminding his kids to save energy by turning the lights off, Lee keeps says that he keeps his lights on the dim setting and has installed an automatic system in his house that’s set to turn off lights when no one is in the room.

“Who knows, maybe down the road, you’ll see me ripping around in some kooky electric car,” he adds.

Meanwhile, Ludacris takes advantage of technology to creduce his carbon footprint. He auditioned for his last two movie roles “Fred Clause” and “RocknRolla” by teleconferencing, so he didn’t have to waste fuel flying. And he’s looking into installing solar panels on his 22-acre homestead in Atlanta, to power up his 15,000 square foot house.

“People feel that they have to do so much to become eco-friendly, but there are little things you can do that help a lot more than people think they can,” Ludacris says.

As Lee says, “We’re going to show people all the cool things they can do to change the way they operate and make [the earth] a better place.”
