‘LONG’ DAY FOR NETS

Among the six hopefuls at the Nets draft workouts yesterday were a pair of projected first round 7-foot centers – JaVale McGee of Nevada and Stanford’s Robin Lopez, whose twin brother Brook is seen as a lottery pick.

“We had some guys who were very talented, big, long, very impressive athletically,” said Nets GM Kiki Vandeweghe.

“McGee is very talented athletically, very gifted. He can shoot, run . . . jump. And he’s exceptionally long,” Vandeweghe assessed. “Robin Lopez has a great motor, plays very hard all the time. He’s a little more talented than you think. And he’s got great hair.”

The workout also included guards Marcelus Kemp of Nevada, Sonny Weems of Arkansas, Eugene Lawrence of St. John’s, and Fairleigh Dickinson’s Manny Ubilla. The Nets have picks 10 and 21 in the first round and 40 on the second.

Said Vandeweghe of McGee, “There is upside with him. Some guys you’re thinking they can come in and compete right away. Other guys you say, ‘I can see he’s going to get a lot better.’ McGee is a guy who can continue to improve.”

Today’s group has Brandon Rush of NCAA champ Kansas, Arizona forward Chase Budinger, Florida power forward Marreese Speights, and forward Joey Dorsey of Memphis.
