The Staten Island Democratic Party last night selected Councilman Mike McMahon as its candidate to try to succeed scandal-scarred Republican Rep. Vito Fossella.
The Brooklyn Democratic Party is expected to follow suit and endorse McMahon today, sources said. The district covers part of Brooklyn.
McMahon still will likely face a primary challenge from Brooklyn lawyer Stephen Harrison.
Meanwhile, the GOP is struggling to recruit a big-name candidate. DA Daniel Donovan backed out and state Sen. Andrew Lanza is on the fence.
