TORTURE DAD GETS OFF EASY

The Brooklyn father of a runaway bride who tried to track down his daughter by torturing a relative of the groom got off with the minimum sentence of five years yesterday.

Justice Joel Goldberg said he understood the concern that Javed Khalid, 53, must have felt after his 16-year-old daughter, Maryam, eloped with a man five years her senior.

Also sentenced to the minimum was Khalid’s pal Shafiq Mohammed, 41, who was on the hunt for his own 14-year-old daughter when the beating took place. The younger girl has since returned.

The victim had known the whereabouts of both girls.

“Nobody really knows what they would do if they found themselves in the position the defendants were in,” said Goldberg.

“My daughter is missing,” Khalid said before sentencing.

“Every day my house is like a cemetery. I have a little son of 10 years. He always cries for his sister. I don’t know if she is alive or dead.”
