NEW YORK TITANS TAB COMEAU AS COACH

The New York Titans of the NLL ended their search for a new head coach yesterday when they hired former Rochester coach Ed Comeau to replace Adam Mueller, who retired at the end of last season.

Comeau, a 43-year-old Ontario native, has an exceptional NLL resume. He was named Coach of the Year in 2007 when he led the Knighthawks to the Champions Cup, the fifth championship of Comeau’s career. He won four while an assistant to legendary coach Les Bartley in Toronto from 1999-2003.

“Where I stood last year, when we played against New York, it was the best team we played all year,” Comeau said. “I really thought they were poised to be in a position to win last year. Hopefully we can finish it off this year.”

Last year, the Titans had the best season in the two-year existence of the franchise, going 10-6 and losing in the second round of the playoffs. Comeau’s Knighthawks missed the playoffs for the first time in franchise history and his relocation was embraced.

“One of the things I learned from working with Les in Toronto is that there are so many close games in this league, you really have to pay attention to detail,” Comeau said. “I tried to continue that in Rochester and now I’m going to try and continue that in New York.”
