SCRAP ONE SANIT SCAM

Scrap metal was like gold to 54 city Department of Sanitation workers.

The city Conflicts of Interest Board yesterday announced it suspended 52 Sanitation workers for five to 30 days for snagging valuable scrap metal from work sites, rather than handing it over to a private entity the city contracts with to accept, process and sell the metal.

The board also fined two workers $1,500 each for using city time and trucks for personal profit.

The board said the employees acknowledged the inappropriate conduct.
