TV mom Florence Henderson claims VH1’s “My Fair Brady” was a setup.
“The Brady Bunch” star believes VH1 execs pressured Christopher Knight (AKA Peter Brady) into marrying “America’s Next Top Model” winner Adrianne Curry in order to spice up “The Surreal Life” and its spinoff, “My Fair Brady.”
“He’s like my son,” Henderson, 74, said of Knight at a meeting with TV critics this week.
“His mother had passed away and he was very involved with this – this person that he met on ‘The Surreal Life,’ ” she said.
“They [VH1] were trying to actually, I think, force him to get engaged,” Henderson said. “And he called me and he said, ‘Would you come and, uh, just counsel us?’ ”
Henderson, who is a certified hypnotherapist, said she was reluctant to get involved in reality TV, but Knight talked her into it.
She appeared on “My Fair Brady” and advised the couple not to marry.
“So I went and counseled them,” she said. “But they didn’t take my advice at all.
“They asked if I could come and counsel them before the marriage,” Henderson said. “And I said, ‘No, but maybe I’ll come and counsel the divorce.’ ”
Knight and Curry are still married, but do not plan on appearing in another season of “My Fair Brady.”
