DOUBLE-CROSSED BY THE MTA

Imagine how many fare hikes could be avoided if MTA officials had to start reaching into their own pockets to use the system, even if they only had to pay half fare (“The MTA Mess,” Nicole Gelinas, Post- Opinion, July 24).

The MTA could avoid another fare hike – never mind two fare hikes.

The MTA has double-crossed riders like me with two hikes. It’s not fair for the riding public to pay more for less.

It doesn’t make any sense. Can’t the MTA find alternatives besides raising bus and subway fares? I’m a poor guy making ends meet, and I cannot afford to pay more money for public transportation.

This is getting outrageous.

I am so looking forward to paying even more for lousy service, dirty trains and filthy platforms.

I assume the higher fares will mean that there will be more rats to watch while waiting for delayed trains and fewer working escalators and elevators. And then there are the stations that reek of urine.

Why didn’t the MTA think of this before? Higher fares for poor conditions and bad service – a winning situation.
