DEM BUYS EX-RIVAL’S VOTER LIST FOR MAYOR BID

Democratic mayoral hopeful Anthony Weiner is courting new supporters with a voter list he bought from former rival Fernando Ferrer.

Records show that Rep. Weiner is the only prospective 2009 candidate to buy the list of e-mail addresses from Ferrer, who was the 2005 Democratic nominee for mayor.

Weiner bought the list for $1,000 in January 2006, using funds from his “Friends of Weiner” congressional-campaign committee.

The Brooklyn-Queens congressman opted out of a runoff against Ferrer, helping clear the way for the former Bronx Borough president to become the Democratic nominee.

Weiner last week laid out the framework for his 2009 race with a speech called the “Keys to the City,” focusing on saving the middle class.

Voters who had signed up for e-mails from the Ferrer campaign, but not Weiner’s, in 2005 received e-mails about the speech.

Weiner ran into issues with the city’s Campaign Finance Board then, about reporting on resources from his congressional campaign that were used for his mayoral bid.

In an advisory opinion that Weiner asked for last year, CFB officials said that he would be allowed to mix resources, but must provide a sound explanation of how the resources count toward spending caps.

Weiner officials said they are going to include funds related to the Ferrer list in their next filing, claiming they didn’t do so in the latest filing because the list hadn’t been used yet.

Ferrer told The Post he was unaware the list had been sold, and has made no endorsement decision.
