RIVALS WOOING APPLE CORP$

Barack Obama and John McCain are competing fiercely to win the hearts – and wallets – of New York’s rich and famous.

A Post analysis shows that 17 percent of both McCain and Obama’s top 500 fund-raisers are from the New York region.

One of Obama’s 88 local bundlers doesn’t let partisan politics get in the way of his personal business.

Criminal defense lawyer Barry Berke, who has raised more than $50,000 for Democrat Obama, represents Republican Rudy Giuliani‘s former police commissioner and business partner Bernie Kerik in a federal corruption case.

Chelsea Piers boss Tom Bernstein – a big financial backer of President Bush in the prior two elections – has raised over $200,000 for Obama in the current election cycle.

The powerful bosses in the entertainment and glamour industries are shaking the bushes for Obama, including: Antonio “LA” Reid, who has come under fire for producing raunchy gangsta rap records, who has raised over $50,000; Charles Ortner , the lawyer for Madonna and Sony Music, over $100,000; Broadway theater owners/producers Margo Lion, over $200,000, and Rocco Landesman, over $50,000; and Vogue editors Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley, over $100,000 each.

Obama bundlers raising more than $200,000 from Wall Street included Jim Torrey, of Torrey Hedge Fund, and Robert Wolf, CEO of UBS Investment Bank.

The Illinois senator also collected more than $100,000 in checks from Ted Janulis of Lehman Brothers, and former Goldman Sachs executive Eric Schwartz, among many others.

McCain – who struggled to raise funds during the GOP primary – has fared much better since he’s become the presumptive nominee. Many of the top rainmakers for former GOP rivals Giuliani, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson have joined his cause. Of his 546 bundlers, 96 were from the New York area.

Among them is billionaire hedge-fund manager Paul Singer of Elliott Associates, who has raised more than $500,000 for McCain.
