SHOWTIME FOR VON SYDOW

LEGENDARY actor Max von Sydow is making a rare trip to the small-screen.

The Oscar-nominated Von Sydow, 79 – famous for his collaborations with director Ingmar Bergman – will appear in the upcoming season of “The Tudors” as Cardinal Von Waldburg – who tries to destroy Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers).

Von Sydow will appear as the German-born Cardinal in four episodes of the Showtime series, according to Variety.

Von Sydow, who does very little TV work, last appeared on American television in the 2000 miniseries “Nuremberg.”

He received an Oscar nomination for his role in 1987’s “Pelle the Conqueror.”

Von Sydow’s hiring follows closely on the heels of British singer Joss Stone joining “The Tudors” cast as Henry’s fourth wife, Anne of Cleves.

The third season of “The Tudors” will premiere early next year.
