DIPLO AID IN ‘KIDNAP’ BY GAY EX

The NYPD is turning to the State Department for help after a gay man absconded from New York to Israel with his ex-partner’s adopted baby son and vowed not to return, police sources said yesterday.

Eric Hyett, 37, was supposed to be watching Jedidiah Hyett-Glazer last weekend for a routine visit, but instead whisked the kid away to Tel Aviv.

The ex, Joshua Glazer, a stay-at-home dad in Manhattan, thought the boy – who turns 2 next month – would be returned on Monday.

But he soon realized there was something wrong, police sources said.

On Tuesday, Hyett made contact with Glazer through an intermediary, who said that Jed was doing well. But Hyett said he was in Israel and wouldn’t be coming back.

Hyett promised the father that he would never see Jedidiah again, police sources said.

Cops say he took a flight from New York to Frankfurt, Germany, on Monday, then went to Tel Aviv from there.

A US State Department spokesman couldn’t reveal details of the case but said they were the lead agency in issues of international domestic kidnapping.

“In a case like this, we would be the ones to engage at the diplomatic level with the government of Israel,” said agency spokesman Rob McInturff.

Glazer married Hyett four years ago in Massachusetts when that state first legalized gay marriages.

They separated last September. Glazer was given legal custody of the boy, while Hyett had weekend visitation rights.

“The position of the [Glazer] family is as follows: They are confident that the justice system in Israel will work and that the youngster will be safely returned,” said Gary Lewi, spokesman for the law firm of Abrams and Fensterman.

“Clearly, Jed was kidnapped, and that’s illegal, no matter where you go in this world.”
