SURPRISE CULT-SHOOT ACQUITTAL

In a stunning verdict, a Staten Island jury let an ex-hippie off the hook for the attempted murder of a Staten Island cult leader, who was ambushed outside his home and shot six times.

Rebekah Johnson beamed as the jury delivered a not-guilty verdict on attempted murder, assault and attempted grand larceny after just six hours of deliberations today.

“I just want to spend time with my family,” Johnson said as she walked out of Staten Island Supreme Court.

The jury flatly rejected prosecutors’ claims that an obsessed and blood-thirsty Johnson targeted Jeff Gross in the botched May 2006 murder plot after he repeatedly booted her out of the Ganas commune.

Johnson, 45, spent 13 months on the lam after the shooting before cops caught up to her.

It was unclear if the jury didn’t think she fired the shots or believed she was the victim of cult brainwashing.
