DEFENSE GOES HIGH-TECH

ALBANY – The news on right guard Chris Snee is encouraging. He went for an MRI exam of his ailing shoulder and, according to Tom Coughlin, the results were “good news.” Snee is bothered by tendinitis, nothing more, and will be monitored. Snee says he hopes to play in the preseason opener and did not want to miss any more practice time, which is why he took the field last night for the evening session. “This time it will be more than just my jersey, I’ll actually be out there,” Snee said. “The other day they put my jersey in the stretch line as a joke. They joke but they really miss me.”

Several players limited during camp will not play in Detroit, leaving the receiver corps especially thin with the absences of Plaxico Burress (ankle), Steve Smith (groin), David Tyree (knee) and Mario Manningham (quad). Amani Toomer (leg) will play briefly. Brandon London sat out last night’s practice with a hip flexor. His status for the game is unknown. The starters will not go past the first quarter.

Also out are LB Gerris Wilkinson (knee) and CB Sam Madison (sports hernia). G Shane Olivea (back) is making improvement but he is not expected to play. . . . The arrival of agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus at camp last night could mean that talks are heating up between the Giants and Burress.
